. .YOU MAKE ME SMILE, PLEASE STAY FOR A WHILE. .

It might be surprising for some that I saw Rufus Wainwright a week ago and am only just blogging about it... truth is that I've been a bit bogged down with work and social commitments this past week and just haven't gotten around to it. Nevertheless, I am here blogging about it now, aren’t I? So stop your whingeing now, dears.

First and foremost... Sheffield is a bugger to get to. And expensive. (Yes, everything is expensive for The Jobless Fish at the moment, but that's besides the point). Went from Southend Victoria to Liverpool Street and had an hour to kill before my train to Sheffield. So went to King's Cross and wandered around Euston Road until I got to an O'Neill's for a pint. Then went to wait at St Pancras for my train – I had about half hour to kill by this time so let this woman quiz me about St Pancras for some survey thing – she gave me pens! Woo! So got on to the train and spent three hours doing nothing much.

Got to Sheffield, met up with Sean and his mate and then went back to Sean's place for a bit to drop off my stuff. Went out walkabouts to find a restaurant – ended up in a small pizzeria about five minutes from the city hall where Rufus was playing. Ate pizza. (Yes this is the abridged version).

So we got to the city hall and sat down and... joy of joys, a tall man was sat smack-bang in the way of my view of the stage... and he was texting... all... sodding... night. And there were these two women that were just ceaselessly irritating. But enough about them.

"This is a great venue but I feel like I’m on trial or… at an auction or something. Mmm... me at an auction… I know some of you would like that… so would I in a certain kind of way. Well, if the price is right!" ~ Rufus Wainwright

Rufus was, obviously, amazing... better than I could have ever imagined him to be. Show was fantastic, and he played some of my absolute favourites. The set list was: Release The Stars, Going To A Town, Sanssouci, Rules & Regulations, Tulsa, Art Teacher, Tiergarten, Leaving for Paris, Between My Legs.

Then a break before: The Consort, Do I Disappoint You?, Foggy Day, If Love Were All, Nobody’s Off The Hook, Beautiful Child, Not Ready To Love, Slideshow, Macushlah (which he sang without a microphone – spine chillingly beautiful), 14th Street.

Then... he came out on stage in a dressing gown and sang: I Don’t Know What It Is, Danny Boy, and Poses. THEN he ruffled up his hair, put on some make-up, earrings and heels and the band came out wearing tuxedos and... he was then wearing nought but a blazer, tights and a trilby. JUDY GARLAND ALL THE WAY, BABEH! So he then finished his absolutely stellar performance with Get Happy and, fittingly, Gay Messiah. So I had a thrilling time. Was really great.

Journey back from Sheffield was as monotonous as the one there though... three hours or sweet fuck all. BUT! When I got back to London I met up with Andy and we went for drinks and then around Soho to some really nice places such as Freedom and the O Bar... and one of my faves, The Edge in Soho Square. Good times, as always, with Andeh. We tried getting in contact with Nicky (of course) but no such luck... and to my knowledge he still hasn't got back to either Andy or myself regarding something we're trying to set up.

Honestly. Men.

Men, men, men.

Incorrigible things.

Utterly so.

Women reading this are likely nodding away right now.

I was sitting at a house party that had gone totally tits-up, just trying to get a bit of quiet to calm down since I was getting irritable, and this guy is sitting next to me. Younger than me I'll point out. Anyways, so we're chatting away and suddenly... oh, yes... it is. An arm casually makes it's way around me. So I say, "Are you going to try something on?" to which he replies, "Yeah." So I end all conversation with "I am sober." Really irritates me sometimes, the way people will try to take advantage... even when they might not realise they're doing it.

Installation went up couple of Thursdays ago now. Private view a success, but after that I don't think anybody actually came to the exhibition because it wasn't advertised. Hah. Anyhoo, mine can be seen HERE (pile of cardboard crap really).

And that's it from me for now. I think I've had a sufficiently long-winded jabber for one night.

Warmest regards,
F x
